It depends what dates you are looking for, as to whether Brian's indexes will help. He used the registers available on film to create his indexes, and these usually ended around 1900/01 because of privacy concerns. You could also order the films through LDS Family History Centres to get the whole record for a far cheaper price than for certs if before this date?
Otherwise you probably need someone in the IOM to check the indexes for you.
