Thank you Nigel - that helps put it into place.
Now, Balleigh in Lezayre is in what is now the northern part of Ramsey, isn't it? Or have I got that wrong.
I have a difficulty with too many John Kneens and suspect I am going to have to trawl through all the John Kneen wills of Lezayre, Bride and Andreas in an effort to filter out (I hope) the right ones. A lot of what I have for pre 1780 ties up, perhaps a little too neatly. I think much of this info passed on from antecedants no longer living, and who lost most of their possessions, including a family bible from the IOM, in a bushfire, but some additional back-tracing was done more recently (1970s?) and I'm not sure of its veracity. Chiefly, there is a John Kneen missing from a will which really throws a spanner in the works. So I might not be looking for a John, but a Ewan or a William... There is a later (late 1700s) family connection with a John Kneen, farmer, Balleigh so I'm trying to work out if he is connected ultimately to the Ewan Kneen mentioned in my first message in this Nairey thread. This John Kneen was, I believe, the cousin of my GGGF Daniel Kneen (married to Isabella Howland, whom you helped me with earlier this year - I have some more questions about her family also!)

If you've any thoughts or suggestions, I'd be grateful.

Thanks!
