Thankyou. That is a fascinating website. I would recommend it to anybody who wants to know anything about the history of the Isle of Man.
I only read through the main body of the work, but I will go back and click on all the links to read a lot more detail about a lot of the topics. It is most intriguing. One could almost write a historic novel filled with intrigue, romance, court cases, and so many other things, just based on the information in the website you gave me.
I also wondered if Viv might be at all interested in a couple of the topics, as I recall her saying something about she had a Shimmin family in Malew:
Viv, in the website which Frances gave me: look at the section of "Deceased Wife's Sister" : John Kinley married his dead wife's sister, Jony Shimmin, had children by her, and later was punished for INCEST, as recorded in the Malew Presentments for 1739.
There is also another section that you might find interesting, Viv: look at the section of "On What Day?": 1678, 19 Jan. Tho. Shimmin came with his daughter Kath. to the Church of Malew.......
Viv, what is also very interesting is the section on "The Legal Age of Marriage".
Thankyou, Frances, for this very interesting website.
