So John's father was also called Hugh, do you know anything else about him?
We live in North West England, is that local to you? The only photos we have are unmarked and there is nobody still living to identify any of the people.
It seems we are talking about the same Douglas family, but I don't have an Eleanor Grace in mine. I have Hugh marrying Ann Cubbon in 1853 and then having Isabella,1854; John,1857; Robert,1859; Elizabeth,1861; Mary Eleanor (Nellie),1867; Margaret,1870; Alexander,1873; Emily G.,1875, and Harry,1877. The first three were born in Birkenhead, the rest in Tranmere. Does any of this tally with your info?
