Lois - I strongly believe that Patk junr remained on Island - the DNA sample stated to be that of a male descendent would according to John Creer + others match Irish Cain family extemely well with no match to any of the so far tested Manx Cains (possibly it is a decendant of the other Patrick Cain ?) - if my research is to be believed then Patrick Cain, junr, left no male descendants - the land went via his daughter to the Quayles, his other dau married a Wm Bridson; the children by what appears to be his 2nd marr died in in childhood - it may be possible to go back to his great uncles and trace then down to locate a living male descendant- this I havn't done.
As a side note I went back and checked on my reading of Elinor Cain als Clark's will - as I put in my page I thought I'd possibly misread Ann for a written Alice - it was Alice + to confirm it was indeed the Elinor who along with Pat took out the 1744 mortgage one of the claims specifically gives the date thereof - there were quite a number of claims and looks as though they had borrowed a number of small sums on various bonds.

It is possible that Pat had left the Island - tho the court names him in the decree and requires him to produce an inventory which is annexed - the 1776 burial would appear to be of him tho he left no will and the decree is an agreement between his two sons in law.

I pointed out the various questionable assumptions made in the original identification (esp that of Ann Cain als Corlet) many times but never received any backing evidence other than the approx birth year of Pat senr + junr from ages at death - I was not aware of the DNA samples until recently but tho they may add contributory evidence, without finding a male descendant of Patk's ggfa it can only 'not support' but neither 'not deny' Manx birth from a previous Irish immigrant.

On the other illeg Patrick - The Museum seems to have returned the original registers back to the parish - they have been digitised but the images not readily available - ran out of time today to chase down the 1911 copy to see if I'd missed it.

I could see little point in arguing re earlier entries in a tree prior to Adam once I I'd sorted out the two Adams and Ann Cain als Corlet
