Re: Patrick Cain

I'm now confused - why cancel the commission you gave to the paid-for researcher (she is considered to be excellent) - if she disproves or even queries my readings then that should help you.

Illegitimacy is only a perceived 'black mark' on the parents (as Earl James noted in early 17th C many Manx were born illegitimate but this was not considered imnportant by people - the child could well have been legitimised under Manx law by later marriage of the couple - the child was not responsible for the parents 'jumping the gun' as many illegitimacies were the result of a betrothal gone wrong.
In any case I didn't state this was your Patrick - merely that there was another Patrick s/o Patrick born on Island within that time period.
BTW who in your opinion is Ann Cain buried in Ballaugh 20 May 1739 indicated as wife of Adam - the Ann Cain of the will was buried 12 Sep 1738.

Re travel across the Atlantic - very different in a steamship in say 1870's (your husbs gmo) + a small sailing ship in 1740's - in those days young children had a very high mortality rate if their mother died.
