Frederick moved soon after his financial difficulties to Banff, Alberta. Banff Springs Hotel was originally built in 1888, but completely rebuilt starting in 1911. Frederick worked as foreman/stone mason, construction completed in 1914. He and his 3 sons fought in WWI with Royal Canadian Engineers. On his return the family received Soldier Settlement land at Chancellor, Alberta where he lived until his death of a heart attack July, 1927.
