Yes I'm as as sure as can be the 'TROJAN' was the 'ABYDOS', he states on page 61 the ship had been lengthened, the 'ABYDOS' was lengthened in 1882, her owners were based in Glasgow as were the 'TROJAN'S'. On page 143 he meets up with the second mate he sailed with on the 'TROJAN' who relates how he was sent to the Isle of Man to deal with the casualties. Finally the date of the wreck fits in with the period he was writing about. You're right it was a sorry state of affairs!
