Re: Robert Looney of the American Colonies

I have decided to start with Benjamin Looney Senior and work back from there, then proceed to Adam. These are the lines with which I have a connection. My primary connection is one of marriage into the Looney line through my Grand Aunt Minnie Robinson who married Arthur Watson Looney, son of William H. Looney who was a descendant of Adam Looney Senior. I thought beginning with these lines might prove easier to connect with Robert Senior, but I have already discovered probelrms with the info on Robert Senior and Junior which will make Benjamin difficult to connect with them.

I have come to suspect that we may be dealing with two separate Looney trees, with family members of similar names, who come from different countries. This could have happened through error during research and could date bak to some of the earliest work done on this family. This would explain some of the DNA results that have proven to not connect some of the family members with others. Instead of explaining this by adoption, it may be a simple error in interpreting records. I hope this is the answer. If it is, there should be some proof out there somewhere to clear it up. It would be only a matter of finding it. Just a thought, though. I think this board might make a good "sounding board" for my ideas. So, feel free to shoot them down if you think I'm crazy. I'm gonna need all the ideas I can get to figure this one out.

I have found two sepatate dates for the death of Robert Looney Senior. One is the 1769 date I have seen mentioned here. However, I also found in the book "A History of the Middle New River Settlements and Contiguous Territory" by David E. Johnston, page 31 (copywrite 1906; Standard Printing and Publishing Company, Huntington, West Virginia) the mention of Robert Looney's death. A gentleman by the name of Burke had reported to a Captain Preston about the death of "a man by the name of Robert Looney" who had been killed by the Indians "near Alexander Sawyer's". Burke made this report on Febryary 15, 1756. This report was quoted in the book to provide proof that Burke was alive and well on that same date. So when did Robert Looney die? Did one of these death dates belong to Robert Looney, Junior and one to his Father or is there a third Robert Looney in the area? Difficulty with proving anything on Robert applies, it seems, to both sides of the Atantic.
