I am trying to find out when my grandfather left the IOM for South Africa in about 1896. He was the son of John Barron - grocer at 26 Duke Street, Douglas. His mother was Eliza Ann Barron (nee Waid). Frank was in the Siege of Mafeking.
My great-grandfather (John) settled in the IOM from Scotland, became a Town Councillor prior to his death in 1900 - gave his birthplace as Dumfries but no record found except incorrect IGI entry for 1847. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you David Barron - Cape Town
