MI lookup: Thos Shimmin
In Response To: Re: BMD indexes ()

Hi KayN

I'm adding this message here since it mentions the name Jackson which was used for a grandchild (in the messages above) of the Catherine Jackson whose first husband was Thomas Shimmin.

In an earlier thread you asked:
1880/1881 birth

Hi, I'm trying to find an actual birth for Amy H Moore born to william Thomas Moore b 1853 & Catherine. In Lawson's list for 1881 Amy H is 1 month, 1891 Age 10, 1901 list age 20 with these parents. However, I found 2 Amy Moores , one Amy Helen b 1879 to John Moore/I Gale & one Amy Hester b 1880 to George & Susanna Moore. These are in Arbory, but the Amy I want is from German. Also how do you find out about divorces? This Catherine b 1845 md to William Thos Moore in 1878 was Jackson then married a Thomas Shimmin & had dau Annie Shimmin born c. 1874 before marrying William Moore. I can find Annie Shimmin but not Thomas as her father. Did they divorce or did he die? Thanks for info.

I believe that since that message, you've resolved your queries about Amy Harriet Moore. Now the query about Thomas Shimmin.

Which Thomas Shimmin, tailor, was the first husband of Catherine Jackson, and the father of Annie Shimmin b 21 Nov 1873 Measham, Derbyshire? The "tailor" comes from Annie Shimmin's birth certificate, seen recently on someone's Ancestry tree.

This is the only Thomas Shimmin I can find in 1871 who was a tailor:

1871
Conchan D 4/9
Thomas Shimmin head unm 20 tailor b German (indexed as Shimmon by Ancestry)
Henry brother 14 scholar b German

If that's the Thomas who married Catherine Jackson in Braddan in 1872, then this is probably his burial:

SHIMMIN, Thomas 26 Braddan 15 Mar 1877

Donna, please would you see if there's an MI for him ?

If this is the right Thomas Shimmin, then he was probably the son of Edward Shimmin and Ann Quine. They had a Thomas bap 3 Nov 1850 German, and a Henry bap 25 May 1856 German (and several other children, too)
