Manx Genealogy

Re: Manx Y-DNA project - recruitment

Hi Nigel,

Don't worry - I have no preconceptions at all about the origins of various Manx names, my scant knowledge comes from the standard reference books.
It is interesting so far however, from the early data in this study that several families do show more than one distinct haplotype within it. In the case of the Creers these have turned out to be non-paternal events - caused by for example adultery, adoption etc. There is one Creer family line who are now genetically Cains!
However it is also possible that there are families sharing the same family name, but who have originated in different locations and from different genetic origins (which is what I think you are suggesting) - and hopefully in time and with more participation, this level of differentiation and identification may become possible within this project.
cheers

John
