Re: William Gale, b. 1805 -1810

Thank you very much for your reply and suggestions. His parents' names are not on the marriage certificate. I believe he came from Rushen Parish (only a theory at this time) and now trying to prove/disprove that theory. From what I have found the name was originally Gell and became Gale around the middle of the 1800s. He could not read or write so probably did not know his name was spelled wrong. The 1808 birth date was entered by an individual and not from original records. I believe 1805 to 1810 is more realistic until a more definite date has been found and proven. I am sure whoever wrote the 1808 date was influenced by the 1850 census which showed he was age 42. He probably immigrated to the US between 1820 to 1840, and possibly in the late 1820s. I did get a good lead during our visit to IOM but would prefer not to publish it until it can be proved. I do not want to lead anyone in the wrong direction.
