Re: Balladda
In Response To: Balladda ()

I really don't know anything about this web site but have extensive information on the Kellys of Balladda printed in book form in a by my father listing the earliest known anchester as John Kelly died April 26 1741. The 4th John Kelly (1788-1850) married Isabella Watterson of Ballakerca (1790-1825) and left the farm after his wife died, turned the 6 children by legal agreement over to the Wattersons. For non payment of taxes , Balladda came into possession of Edward Gawne, a banker, in the early 1830's. As late as 1867, a son of the last Kelly to own Balladda was apparently trying to buy back the farm and had acquired 15 acres of it. In 1898, the Gawne estate sold the farm to William Teare, a farmer who consolidated a number of farms in the Balladda area. Sheila Teare, a descendant of William was owner in early 1980's when my wife and I traveled there, but has since died. All of my family has been proud of our Manx heritage, and made several trips to the Isle of Man. Hope this is useful.m I would be happy to share other information and interested your knowledge of the Kellys and Balladda.
