Re: Enquiry about films
In Response To: Sylvia Re: Enquiry about films ()

KayN, I described how to find the film number from the entry on the IGI in an earlier message.

1. Put James Kelly & [spouse] Eliza Costain under Names on the IGI. Event: Marriage. Region: British Isles. Country: Isle of Man. Search.

2. Click on James Kelly. An "extracted" entry (from parish reg) comes up for his marriage in Malew on 01 JUN 1878.

3. Look at the bottom of the screen for the Source Information. You will see a list of film numbers for various dates under "Source Call No". Look for the one which includes 1878, which is the last one on the list. Film number 0106192, which is the one I gave you before. IGNORE the batch number at this stage. You need the SOURCE number to order a film.

4. Go to your FHC and order Film no. 0106192 and any others you need, for a small fee - found the same way through the IGI.

5. When the film(s) come in the FHC will ring you and ask you when you would like to book a film reader to view the films. They will show you how to load the film onto the spools, and how you can photocopy any entries you need.

The baptism for Eliza Jane Costain, according to the IGI, is on 1849-1883 Film No.0106186 Item 3. (Meaning the third section on the film.)
You might also find St Matthews on Section 1 of the film, because the Catalog gives both, and, as Sylvia wrote, it is well worth looking through all the available records for mentions of your family.

You usually have a month to view them in the local FHC.
