Violet Edmondson

Hi,

This is the third of my MER related queries.

As my mother was related to the wife of MER Chief Engineer Edward Barnes (1922-19360 and manager 1936-1952), she regularly visited the Barnes family who lived in the MER engineer's house at 13 Strathallen Crescent, next to the tram station.

We got to know another younger girl, Vi, or Violet.
Vi was the daughter of Frank Edmondson, who was manager of the MER from 1907 to 1936, and was born some time in 1911.

I have not been able to find a precise date. Does anyone have that information ?

Violet Florence Edmondson, to give her full name, was the daughter of Frank Edmondson who married Florence Mary Tambaci at Braddan on 30 April 1898. Seemingly they only had the one daughter, Vi, who was born 1911 and in 1931 was working as Cashier for the MER at STrathallen Crescent.

I have not been able to trace Vi after c1932. She seems to have left MER employment by the late 1930s, so may have married but I can find NO trace of a Violet Florence Edmondson marrying on the Island, nor can I find any burial under her maiden name.

Her parents, Frank Edmondson and Florence Tambaci are buried in the family plot at Braddan, along with Frank's parents, O R Edmondson & his wife, and his sister, but Vi does not appear to be there.

Does anyone have any suggestions, as I should like to tie up the loose ends.

========

Backtracking produced some remarkable finds. Vi's mother, Florence Mary Adelina Tambaci (1878-1955) was remembered in the 1930s as 'one of the beautiful Tambaci sisters who lived in Derby Sq'. As the family were only there for a few years in the 1890, that suggest the girls must have been quite something !!!
Florence Mary was actually born in Bengal in 1878 to a Mamchester based 'India Merchant' Caralambros Tambaci, a junior partner in Paul Tambaci & Son. His wife was the 16 year old Florence Tambaci (senior), if you can apply senior to a 16 YO !! Like Little Florrie, Big Florrie had also been born in India, but I have not yet founf her maiden name !

That's all, so any help on Vi Edmondson would be great.

Robert
