I'm clutching at straws a wee bit here! but I'm trying to trace my Great Grandfather Robert Smith, born about 1857 in England, but ended in the Isle of Man, with his father John Smith a tailor, living in Drumgold Street, Douglas, according to the 1871 census. John Smith was a widower at this time, and was also born in England. Robert himself gave his trade has a shoemaker on his marraige certificate. According to family 'skeet',he went to South Africa, after his youngest daughter died in 1882, to make his fortune! His wife, my great grandmother Mary Ann Quiggin had died in child birth in about September 1881. Anyone, perhaps in South Africa, come across this Robeert Smith. Thank you
