Hi Donna.

This is as accurate as I can make out as some of the letter is faded.John Gawne born 1797. letter dated May 24th 1871.

Dear Emily.
I Recieved your letter yesterday and I was glad to hear from you being well as I am at present,Thank God fot it,Iam well in health now but my clan is getting rather too heavy for me as I have some travelling to do from house to house to see my families,you said in your letter that you would send me some present,it would be very acceptable just now to me and I would like very much if you would send me a little money to buy me a light coat for the summer and to get two new shirts as any old ones is gone very bad,they are all in holes,the money is very scarce out here ----- ----- and Philip has spent his money on the new house,you may know yourself how they are so don't forget me.I would like to see you and Mary and I hope she is getting better,remember me to Mary and to Gem and Johns family,tell them I am well and am up seeing Willie. Philip working two or three times a week,they have got plenty of work and plenty of leather now.Willie and Sarah is well and the family.Your mother and father is well,only the baby she got her hands scalded very bad. ----- having very much to say now but write soon and dont forget me,and send me that present as soon as you can.I would like to see you but I am pretty contented now,write to me again as soon as you can,so no more from your Grandfather.

Could you be so kind as to go to uncle Johns house and get Grandfathers Sisters address and send it out here to him as he is wishing to write to her,your father and mother is going to write to you,we would all be glad to see you out here.
