Re: Ellen Kneale
In Response To: Re: Ellen Kneale ()

Philip, Sue and Sylvia – thank you for all your replies. There is a lot of information for me to take on board and I am grateful for all of it. It will take me a wee while to digest but in the meanwhile a few thoughts:

I think the age of 53 on the death might be a transcript error – easy to confuse a 3 with an 8. If 58 is correct then this would fit with the Ellen Kneale who was christened in Bride on 8 March 1843.

IGI shows the following
James Kneale m. Ann Vondy 3 Apr 1834 in Bride.
Children:
James Kneale 2 Jun 1838
William Kneale 14 Sep 1840
Ellen Kneale 8 Mar 1843
I am certain this is the family I quoted on 1851 Census as all the ages/age gaps match. Even the age gap (14 yrs) between the James Kneale and Ann Vondy match their births on IGI.
Question still remains – is this the Ellen Kneale who married Thomas Joughin in 1862 in Andreas? It would be good to know if Peter got his information about the marriage from the register as that would definitely rule out this Ellen as the wife of Thomas Joughin. In which case, she is not my 3x gr.grandmother – so which Ellen is?

Thanks Peter for the offer of info re ancestry of Thomas Joughin – I will contact you.
Thanks to all 3 of you for your help - I think you are all very clever sorting out these
genealogy trails. As a fairly new beginner, I have great difficulty!
