Re: Lace Family History
In Response To: Re: Lace Family History ()

I am compiling a tree for a surprise birthday present for a friend. She is descended, I believe, from Frances Elizabeth Dorothy Lace, daughter of SARAH LACE. I believe she also had a brother Alexander or Alec Lace. Sarah Lace was the daughter of John Lace and Ann Quirk, she was born 1861in Douglas Isle of Man. I managed to find a thread on the internet with the help of a kind member from the Manx Mailing List. There has been some correspondence from Doug Lace who is descended from Sarah's older brother THOMAS LACE born 1854.

I've been burrowing away for a couple of weeks now, only to discover that I had been researching the wrong Sarah Lace and I had to bin all my research. I'm awaiting a few more certificates which will help me, but I only have four days left before my friend's birthday. I wondered if anyone was interested in doing some mutual research? Sadly, Frances Lace, died at the age 33, leaving one daughter. Her mother Sarah disappeared off the radar after 1901, another sad story, she was in Douglas Home for the Poor along with baby son Alexander. 1901 sees Frances with the Cowen Family and 1911 shows Frances (under name Elizabeth) with her brother Alec listed with the Cowen family as adopted children. The next information I have on Frances is on her marriage certificate. She gives her father's name as William, deceased, no occupation. Sarah was lodging with William Rocksbury (I believe this is William Roxborough) on the 1891 census, On the 1901 Census William Roxborugh is also a 'patient' at the Home for the Poor. I think William could be the father of both Frances and Alec.

I have literally only just put 2 weeks research in the 'bin'. So am now working like crazy on this new tree - if you are interested please do drop me a line,

Best wishes for now

Julie
