there is a note by constance radcliffe that national school for girls started some musical entertainment on evening of May day 1888 which grew into an annual event supported by others but nowhere I can find does she mention any thing like a carnival or town based May day events - possibly the card shown was one of the hospital saturday or sundays which from 1907 were fundraising days for Ramsey cottage hospital
