Re: Stowell / Craine
In Response To: Re: Stowell / Craine ()

Thanks Donna, you have filled in the fourth and beyond generations for me. I find it fairly incredible that Alma Talbot Craine disappeared to Australia like that but have failed to find her anywhere else and the dates do seem to fit. After having Dorothy Craine in 1885, there is no sign of her.
Bernard Arthur is buried next to his parents in Onchan Churchyard no 379 In/loving /memory/of/BERNARD ARTHUR/ son of the late ROBERT EDWARD CRAINE, M.R.C.S.Eng/& ELLEN ISABELLA his wife/ who died 6th April 1911 / aged 63 years/ also ELLEN ISABELLA/ daughter of the late Doctor CRAINE/ born 19th September 1838/ died 12the Jan 1919.
No mention of Alma Talbot. Both their children Robert Edward (who became an advocate) and Dorothy were brought up by their aunts (Bernard Arthur's sisters) and are buried with them. Again no sign of Alma Talbot. Yet in the 1911 census, Barnard Arthur only days before he dies states he has been married for 38 years and has had 4 children, only 2 of whom lived. What a mystery?
