Although I now live in Pinner, Middlesex, I was born in Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire.
Our Charnleys moved from Ratcliff, Lancs, in the early 1900's to work in a new cotton mill which openened in Whaley Bridge.
my father was Fred (works engineer), & his father (blacksmith) was also named Fred.
There were a lot of Lancs accents in the village.
