Re: MI Kaneen Braddan
In Response To: Re: MI Kaneen Braddan ()

The widowed Thomas Kaneen is listed with his family at Creg-y-Cowin on the 1861 census. He is listed as the occupier of 10 acres. The two preceeding entries were for Daniel Kaneen Senr and Junr of Creg-y-Cowin.
C-y-C was at that date owned in three shares:
The outer share belonged to the Daniel Kaneen line, The middle section was owned by the Quilliams, but tenanted, the lower section belonged to my family of Quine at Arderry a mile or so away. It is possible that your man was renting off the Quilliams. In 1841 there is a John Kaneen aged 55 heading a household on C-y-C, he has a Thomas with him, aged 26 - ages are only supposed to be given to the next 5 down but they seem to be more exact here. A John K. was registered as owner of C-y-C in the Tithe Book of 1840 with 41 acres. A Cath Caneen owned one quarter of an acre.
