Re: Burial and Monumental Inscriptions

Hi Stephen,

Yes, the M.I.s look like your family.

I see that you got b.Ramsey for your gt grandfather from the 1901 census, and that all his children were born in Bootle (I had quite a search for them in the IOM!), and that his wife was born in Liverpool.

I also found him in the 1871 Ramsey census with his parents John Smith aged 39 a mariner, and wife Agnes, 37, milliner, both b. England, and his children John A 9, John 8, Thomas 6, all b.Ramsey, Maria A aged 5 and Clara 3 both b.Lezayre, and another child Jane aged 1 b.Ramsey.

The IGI has extracted records (from the parish register) for MARTHA ANN SMITH Christening: 09 JUN 1867 Lezayre, Father: JOHN SMITH, Mother: AGNES BUCHANAN
Same parents for:
CLARA MABELLA SMITH Christening: 11 APR 1869 Lezayre.
THOMAS SMITH Christening: 16 JUL 1865 Ramsey (mother's name only as Agnes).
GEORGE SMITH Christening: 20 MAR 1874 Ramsey (mother's name only as Agnes).
John is under his mother's surname in the IGI, Christening: 27 SEP 1863 Ramsey (born pre-marriage).

Agnes is under "Buchman" in the IGI at her marriage in Ramsey to John Smith:
AGNES BUCHMAN
Marriage: 22 MAY 1864 Ramsey, Isle Of Man Husband Age at Marriage: 32
Wife Age at Marriage: 25
