Re: Bagge Ancestry
In Response To: Bagge Ancestry ()

hi! I am a Bagge descendent from Norway in the 1400s. I live in St. Paul, Minnesota, U.S.A. I have been attempting to track down the Bagge family for many years. I believe the Isle of Mann was a posession of Norway at one time and was governed by a son of Ragnvald, Earl of More in Norway in the late 800s. Possibly Sigurd Ragnvaldson. Therefore, the name Bagge may have come from Norway. This is only a conjecture of course and more info may possibly be found in Manx history. The name itself is believed to have originated in Denmark as Norway was a part of Denmark at one time. My earliest knowledge of my part of the Bagge family is Olaf Bagge who lived in Rosendal, Hordaland, I would Norway, and was a member of the Riksradet in 1500. The name in this line was lost to my knowledge somewhere in the 1600s although the bloodline continued under other names. There are still existing Bagges in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and the U. S. but I havent tracked them down. I do hope this info is of help to you and can lead to more info on the family. I would certainly appreciate getting a copy of anything you may find.
