Re: History of Charnley name
In Response To: Re: History of Charnley name ()

My g-g-g-grandfather Richard Charnley, was born 1802 on Walney Island but is registered as living on Piel Island in the 1841 census and is described as a 'pilot'. His father John Charnley was from Preesall (admin district Stalmine) in Lancashire. My own grandfather left Barrow-in-Furness to work in the Clyde shipyards at the beginning of the 20th century. I'm sure I've still got lots of relatives in the area but too far removed after such a long time.
