Re: Vannan surname
In Response To: Re: Vannan surname ()

Hello and thank you for the information. This is information that I already had known. Do you think this surname did originate in Scotland then? Thank you very much for your time and input. I really appreciate it tremendiously!
About that ship, Ellan Vannin, does the name mean Isle of Man?
I have researched 1880 census of Scotland and found info on my granddad, his brother Daniel and sister Bella. But not any further back than his father and mother. (James and Elizabeth Sharp Vannan)
Well, actually I have not researched Sharp. I have done some on Sarah's side as she was decended from Robert Burns lineage.
The child who traveled with Sarah to America, was Sarah also, but went by Sadie her whole life. She was the oldest (3 when they set sail)and then my Dad (1911), then the youngest sister Elizabeth Sharp Vannan (Betty, 1914)These are my 2 Aunts.
My Dad was older than my mother by 15 years, so his family history goes back further and is getting harder to search. Dad would have been 95 this August past if he had not died 40 years ago.Thank you once again
Peggy
