Update to my previous message. My great grandparents were Joseph Buttell and Eliza. My grandmother was born Liliian Mary Buttell on the IOM around 1900. She was one of Joseph and Eliza large family in the Leyzayre/Sulby area. I know her brother Frederick died of his wounds in World War 2 and believe Joseph and Eliza also lost a grandson in that war (details from War Graves Commission site). I also think Joseph and Eliza were married 1893 in Whitehaven Cumberland and that she was born a Dougherty. Her mother was a Gilmour and her grandmother a Shimmin.
I cannot confirm anything apart from names of Joseph and Eliza and details following 1900. We are still in contact with members of my Dads family on the island but not the Buttell side. Janet
