Re: Manx men in the American Civil War

It was not John F Qualtrough who served in the Civil War as I posted back in 2001, but John Qualtrough who emigrated to Rochester NY in 1850 and subsequently married Margaret Crebbin there in 1851.

John Qualtrough was bp Rushen IOM 7 Sep 1834, s/o John Qualtrough & Margaret Catherine Clague of The Level, Rushen. He was a blacksmith in Rushen and also in Rochester. He died in Salt Lake City Utah between 1893 & 1900 and is buried at Mt Olivet Cemetery there.

His military service during US Civil War was:

Name: John Qualtrough
Company: C
Unit: 6 N. Y. Cavalry.
Rank - Induction: Sergeant
Rank - Discharge: Private
Allegiance: Union

His enlistment was in the name of Qualtro.
