Re: Craine family tree
In Response To: Re: Craine family tree ()

Hello Jan,

Is this the family is Mentor, Ohio 1850 census? If so, this census indicates that all were born in Isle of Man.

The IGI gives a marriage of Thomas Craine and Esther Gelling at Ballaugh, August 18, 1826.

Children born to Thomas Craine and Esther Gelling: (names and ages fit those in the above Mentor census)

1. Margaret bp Ramsey May 18, 1827
2. Mary Esther bp Ballaugh August 19, 1828
3. John bp Ramsey (and Ballaugh!) December 4, 1829
4. Elizabeth bp Douglas (St. Mathews) April 4, 1832.
5. William bp Andreas January 5, 1834
6. Jane bp Andreas December 30, 1835 (Could this be a misreading of "James"?)
7. Ann bp Bride October 18, 1837
8. Nessy bp October 6, 1839

It would seem that this family moved around a lot. Maybe someone can find them in the 1841 IOM census--that might give some additional information.

It would also be of benefit to look at the actual parish registers for the above baptisms, to see what additional information there might be.

I did not find the family in 1860. Do you know where they went?

(I should add that there is a Thomas Crane family in the 1840 Mentor census): Thomas Crane: 1 male under 5; 1 male15-20; 1 male 40-50; 2 females under 5; 1 female 20-30

This does not seem to fit the ages/sex of the individuals in the 1850 census, so is almost certainly another Thomas Crane family.

Good luck!
