Re: Gawnes in North America
In Response To: Gawnes in North America ()

Hi Jim,

Could you please email me direct at

elizabeth@qualtrough.org

as I am currently working with a branch of North American Gawnes who descend from Elinor Kennish bn 1778 Rushen, Isle of Man (d/o Elinor Qualtrough & Peter Kennish) who married Thomas Gawn/e in Rushen, IOM in 1803

Elinor Kennish & Thomas Gawn/e had 3 known children - (Peter) William Gawne bn 1807, Rushen, IOM, Elinor Gawne bn 1811 Rushen and Jane bn 1820 Rushen. There are sure to be others.

(Peter) William Gawne died in 1877 and is buried in Ogletree Cemetery, Howard Twp, Ontario, Canada He married Electa Joan Martindale and they had 8 children all mainly born in Caistor Twp, Lincoln Co, Ontario.

This line of Gawnes are mainly in Ontario and Michigan and among the line is one

Charles Talbort Gawne, born 22 Oct 1878 at Blenheim, Kent Co, Ontario. He married Ettie Martin in Bay City, Bay Co, Michigan, USA on 16 Aug 1909. I have no information on any children.

Charles Talbort Gawne died in 1974 and is buried in Standish, Michigan.

This may not be your direct line, but you could tie in with them.... I still have some work to do sorting them out, but we may be able to make a connection.

Note that this is not my own family history but I am personally interested in the Qualtrough connection.

Elizabeth
