Warrensville Pioneers: Thos Callister, Edw Corlett

As always, I would very much appreciate any additions or corrections to the information below. It is my plan to submit the final Pioneer compilation, with all contributors credited, to the appropriate historical and genealogical libraries.

For sources, please check my first posting of October 10.

(1) Thomas Callister was born about 1807, and died in 1891. He married, January 18, 1853, Ann Corlett.

According to Tim Davis, Thomas Callister married Jane Caine, born 1827 IOM, and immigrated 1830. (Was Ann Corlett a second wife of this same Thomas Callister?)

Ann Callister was born about 1822, and died in 1888. Thomas and Ann Callister lived in Warrensville.

1850 Warrensville census #3166: Thomas Callister 43 IOM; Jane 63 IOM; Edward 26 IOM; Mary Ann 24 IOM; Mary Ann Corlett 2 Ohio; Ellen Corlett 8/12 Ohio; James Rutliff 29 IOM

1860 Warrensville census #119: Thomas Collister 53 farmer IOM; Ann 38 IOM; Thomas A. 6 Ohio; John F. 4 Ohio; Ella J. 1 Ohio; Jane 73 IOM.

1870 Warrensville census #207: Thomas Callister 63 farmer IOM; Anna 48 IOM; Thomas 16 Ohio; Frank 14 Ohio; Ellie 11 Ohio; Willie 8 Ohio.

1880 Warrensville census p. 372C: Thomas Callister 72 farmer IOM; Ann 58 IOM; Franklin J. farmer 24 Ohio; Alle Jane 21 Ohio; William Ed 17 Ohio.

Children of Ann Corlett and Thomas Callister:

i. Thomas A. Callister was born about 1854.

ii. John Franklin Callister was born about 1856.

iii. Ella Jane Callister was born about 1859.

iv. William Edward Callister was born about 1863.

(2) The 1850 census above, #3166, raises some questions.

(a.) Does it reflect Jane Callister, a widow, with sons Thomas and Edward, whose wife Mary Ann was possibly a widow with two small children when Edward married her?

(b.) Is there an error in the census tabulation or transcription, and Edward is really Edward Corlett with wife Mary Ann? I suspect this is the case. This theory is supported by subsequent censuses:

1860 Warrnesville census #120: Edward Corlett 35 farmer IOM; Mary 33 IOM; Mary A. 12 Ohio; Edward J. 9 Ohio; Elizabeth 6 Ohio; Harriet 4 Ohio; Margaret 1 Ohio.

1870 Warrensville census #205: Edward Corlett 48 farmer IOM; Mary 44 IOM; Edward 18 carpenter Ohio; Lizzie 16 Ohio; Harriet 14 Ohio; Maggie 12 Ohio; Ellen 8 Ohio; Lottie 6 Ohio; Maria 4 Ohio; Thomas 3/12 Ohio

1880 Warrensville census: Edw Corlett 57 IOM; Mary 55 IOM; Edward 28 Ohio; Harriet 23 Ohio; Allen 18 Ohio; Lottie 16 Ohio; Mary 14 Ohio; Thomas 10 Ohio; Cora 5 Ohio.

(c.) Was Ann Corlett a sister of the Edward, probably Corlett, who was living with Thomas in 1850 census?

Edward and Mary Ann might be Edward Corlett/Mary Ann Cowley, married at Jurby, February 13, 1847.

Mary A. Corlett, wife of Edward Corlett, died at her residence in Warrensville, August 4, 1900, in her 74th year.
