In Response To: Quayle Name ()

In response to your enquiry about the name Quayle.

I have Quayle ancestory too, I live in the north of England, my great-great grandmother Ann Quayle (nee Tomlinson, born Cheshire approx 1844) left the I.O.M. following the death of her husband William Henry Quayle (born 1842, Jurby).

William and Ann are shown on the 1871 census for Lonan, I.O.M. aged 28 and 27 respectively, along with their three children, Elizabeth J (my great grandmother) age 5, Philip, age 2 and Jessie (daughter), age 9 months. The children were all born I.O.M.

On the 1881 census Ann and the three children are living in Barrow in Furness, where I can account for Ann, Elizabeth J and Jessie, who all remained in the town. I do not know what became of Philip, he does not appear on the 1891 census for Barrow in Furness and may have left the area (he would have been 22 in 1891).

I believe William Henry Quayle's parents were John and Jane Quayle who appear on the 1851 census for Lezayre aged 49 and 44. William is shown as 8, with an elder brother, John J, aged 16 and a younger brother Thomas H, aged 3.

Do you have any information on your husband's ancestors? Do you know which part of the Isle of Man the family originated from? Could they be connected to my Quayle family?
