John Leece

I am looking for information on my Leece line.

my gggrandfather and his sister were born on the IOM here is the information that I have. They came to the United States in 1855 with their parents and at least one sister.

John J. Leece born June 28, 1842 IOM
died September 28, 1915, Lovewell, Kansas.
Married Elizabeth Ann Prideaux October 31, 1868 Dodgeville, Wisconsin. They had 7 children, but only 5 survived.

Not in order of birth they are:

1. John
2. Henry
3. Charlie (Charles E. this is my ggrandfather)
4. Estella P
5. Lyda L.

Elizabeth Elenore Leece born April 28, 1840 IOM died July 19, 1924 Madison, South Dakota. Married Richard Thomas JAMES December 25, 1858 Dodgeville, Wisconsin. They had 10 children.

John J. Leece was born in the Isle of Mann on June 28, 1842. He came to the USA and settled on a farm with his parents at Dodgeville Wisconsin in 1855. He lived there until he enlisted in the Civil War with Company C 31st Wisconsin in 1862 serving until the close of the war. On October 31, 1868 he married Elizabeth Ann Prideaux. To this union was born 7 children, 2 died in infancy. Surviving are Mrs. Estella P. Marr, Mrs. Lyda L. Doxon, Charlie, John and Henry Leece all of Jewell County, Kansas. After the war Mr. Leece was a blacksmith in Dodgeville until 1870 when he moved with his family to Kansas. They located in the southern part of Jewell County. In the fall of 1873 they moved to Noble County, Minnesota living here until 1893. He then returned to Kansas to live on a farm near Lovewell where he resided until his death on September 28, 1915. His wife preceded him in death on July 19, 1905. He also leaves to mourn his death two sisters; Mrs. Betsy James of Little Rock, Iowa and(no other name for second sister), 21 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Morgan in the U.B. Church in Lovewell. Internment at Fairview Cemetery. Attending were: Mrs. R.T. James-Little Rock, Iowa
