Kaneen is a recognised variant of the name, mostly found in Andreas parish where there is a holding called Ballakaneen. The Andreas Kaneens intermarried with the Kellys of Baldwin and a branch became established at The Dhoon in Braddan, spreading to Creg y Cowin and Ballawillin, then towards Douglas.
