Re: Teare Family
In Response To: Re: Teare Family ()

Hi to the TEARE Clan
Have been researching my Family Tree but seemed to have reached an impasse. My branch of the TEARE Family Clan were from DOUGLAS (1891 Census Derby Road, 1881 Post Office Lane, 1871 Barrack Street, 1841 Church Street).
Various romantic stories (One he went to school with that other James Teare of 'Ellan Vannin' fame)pervade the family regarding my Grandfather James Teare, who was a Captain in sailing ships, mainly on the Australian run. His life, however, seems a bit of a mystery. The trail led to a Baptismal Record Entry No. 138 in Douglas showing a Margaret Teare having had an illegitimate son November 17th 1856. Margaret was a servant girl, presumably in some large house in Douglas. A Countess Del Passa, Spanish or Italian descent living on the Island, (not sure of spelling) appeared to be a frequent visitor to the Teare family home in subsequent years. This obviously fuelled the illgitimacy!! If any of the above jogs anyones' memory I would love to hear from them and provide additional info. Regards to everyone.
