I wonder if this could be David Kewley, usually known as Dawsey. He was a boatman at Douglas and saved at least 20 people from drowning in the vicinity of the town and harbour. He died in March 1904 aged 54. There is a head and shoulders monument a little way inshore of the Victoria Pier at Douglas erected to his memory.
