Hope someone can set me straight - I have been down so many blind alleys!!
On the 1841 census a Wm. Gawne of Ballaugh, wife Jane, are listed with children Ellen, 30, Elizabeth 25, Mary, 21, William 14 and Thomas Moore 6.
The boy could possibly be my great grandfather.
I go forward now to 1850 Census - New York where my grandmother was born in 1854. According to the census John Gawne 24, Jane 26, and Susan 1 were listed and directly below their names were listed John Callister 11, Catherine Callister 8. I can only surmise that the Callister children were related in some way. What I need to know is which is my family? My grandmother had a sister named Susan (so I'm told) who was born around 1849 - she married in the States and stayed there - I'm told they did well for themselves. Not sure but I think it was in Philadelphia.
I would be greatful for any assistance - I think I'm going around the bend.
