I cannot put you in touch with Bob Dougherty directly, however, I can tell you what he wrote to me when I enquired about Manx Rugby several years ago. I was trying to identify my Grandfather's Mona Football Club cap from 1903-1904. I quote ".....The Mona club was founded in approximately 1883 by a group of lads from the Circular Road area of Douglas. The clubs first secretary was William Cubbon who later became Curator of the Manx Museum. Formal rugby competition started on the Isle of Man in 1888 with the first Challenge Cup Competition and grew rapidly to include League and Junior Cup competitions. Mona was the most successful of the insular clubs winning all the local competitions on numerous occasions. Unfortunately very few records survive and the main source of information is the local papers...."
