Re: Skillcorn/Skillicorn
In Response To: Re: Skillcorn/Skillicorn ()

Being a Skillcorn, I find this most interesting! I have always thought that my family history began on the Isle of Man, they coming over to Workington and thence here to the North-East of England (Washington, Tyne and Wear, formerly Co. Durham)to work in the coalmines. I have a birth certificate of Joseph Skillycorn (note the 'y'), son of Rachel Skillycorn (formerly Crellin) and John Skillycorn, a coalminer. They lived in Chapel Brow, Little Clifton. Joseph was born 18th July 1859. The certificate was a copy made for the employment exchange of the time (1924) but on the reverse the name 'Skillycorn' is corrupted to 'Skillcorn' and the place of birth is registered as Camerton, Cumberland.
