Hi, first step is to get hold of his death certificate or birth certificate, which will record his parent's names. Once you have their names tracing back will be easier using the IGI, Census records, Monumental Inscriptions etc.

A copy of the birth certificate should be obtainable from the General Registry,Douglas,IOM, at a little cost.
