Just discovered THOMAS CHRISTIAN, a great great grandfather who came to Australia about 1860. His death certificate in 1905 states he was about 72 years old, and that he was born in Ramsay, Isle of Man.
the only other clues I have is that of the names of his numerous children of which there were fifteen, born between 1864 and 1891. These were Jane ELizabeht, Esther, Thomas A. Florence, Robert Edward, Esther, Edith Rose, WIlliam, Alice Lillian, Oswald Charles, Ethel M. Elsie, Alma, Henry Sydney Benson. The mother was Esther Benson,
Thomas died at his home in Reynolds Street, Balmain, an industrial, shipping inner harbour suburb of Sydney, and his occupation was listed as a stevedore, wharf laborour and perhaps earlier, master mariner.
Owing to the early death following the birth of Jane Elizabeth's third child when she was 27, Jane's eldest daughter Jeannie May was adopted by her father's half brother James Lang Campbell and all contact with the Christian side of the family was lost.
I would really appreciate any clues about Thomas Christian's family in the Isle of Man. I have easy access to Australian records if I can be of assistance in return in NSW records,
Georgina Stephen Chaseling.
