MCLEAVEY-CORKILL
Hello
I am interested in any information on the name MCLEAVEY. My great-grandad Richard James McLeavey was born in Ramsey, he was adopted, I believe his birth name to have been Sloan(e). He worked on a lifeboat and received an award for the saving of a life. He married Alma Florence Corkill of Ramsey, she is thought to be of spanish descent. Her father was a blacksmith and had his own business in Ramsey. Richard James and Alma Florence started their married life in Ramsey, they also lived at 29 Athol Street, Douglas. I have also been told there is a connnection with the address 30 King Street, Ramsey, possibly to do with Richard James who was born 1873.

R.J had three brothers who emigrated to Australia, Wilfred (known as Ditchie - not sure of the spelling on the name), Dan and Thomas who was my grandad. Ditchie was about 16 when he went to Australia and Thomas went about 1937. They were all seamen except R.J. Other siblings of Richard James were Mildred (Millie), she died age 7 of Diptheria and Ethel who married Vernon Uren, they had one son Alan and lived in Farrant Street, Douglas.

I would be grateful for any information received. Thank you. Karen
