Re: William Moore
In Response To: William Moore ()

I am looking for information regarding my grandmother Louise Moore who was born on the Isle of Man. She married my grandfather David Douglas Boulter in Alberta, Canada in 1913 at approximately age 40. She gave birth to my father William Boulter in 1915 in Vermillion, Alberta. She was a school teacher on the Isle of Man before emigrating to Canada where she taught in Alberta before marrying my grandfather who moved to ranch in Alberta after farming in New Brunswick. I know you are asking about William Moore of whom I know nothing. I know nothing of my grandmother's family. I believe she left her birthplace on bad terms with her family. My father used to joke about a wicked "Uncle Harry" whom, I believe, was a prominent and influential man on the island. I believe she must have named my father after some relative from the Isle of Man however. My grandmother's history is sketchy because she died during the famous flu epidemic of 1918 when my father was only three years old. My grandparents had just moved to British Columbia at the time after losing their home in Alberta to fire. I believe she had a sister who was a milliner in Chicago. Her name I do not remember.

I have only two pictures of my grandmother. The one that is the clearest is of her with twelve other female teachers. I have only just thinking about my family tree so I have no real idea as to where to start. If you could please advise, I would be most grateful. I am interested in her story since I am a teacher as well.

I am curious as to what made her leave her relatively prosperous situation on the Isle of Man to embark on a teaching job in Alberta. What a courageous woman she must have been. As well, I believe, she was also an unusual woman for the day since she was supposed to have been around six feet tall.

Thank you.
