Family History Society

Re:IOMFHS etc
In Response To: Re:On Line Offer ()

Thanks Susanne I appreciate your comments. I have been in the exact same position myself as the IOMFHS Committee. In my native country where I founded a genealogy group, was convenor for 8 years, as well as Librarian, newsletter editor, taught beginners classes, ran research days, answered queries, travelled all over the country as speaker and guest speaker at conferences and workshops, etc.

I was also on the National Executive of the national society for four years and publications officer to boot all at the sametime as the above. I also wrote two family histories, had newspaper columns, and wrote articles for several genealogical journals worldwide.

All this in the 1970s and 1980s when email didn't exist, and computers were not part of my life.

So I know what it is like to be a few doing the bulk of the work. Perhaps the Society needs to co-opt more help.....spread the load etc. One of the things I found I needed to learn quickly was to delegate the work load other wise my time to myself and my own research became non-existant. And one thing, despite my "out there" profile, I ALWAYS ensured I had time for, was ME and MY research. I NEVER let the out-there stuff take over, despite all that I did.

Any way enough. This debate has really gone further than I think the original poster intended but much of what has been posted obviously needed to be aired. Hopefully the Society will benefit by it all.

Thanks for the opportunity
