I thought we'd better confirm and clarify a few items raised: -
The various BB's, genealogy, IOMFHS, NAMA etc are all hosted free of charge within the isle-of-man.com website. We set these facilities up several years ago, when the Internet was very new and the use of it as a research tool by people to trace ancestry and related items was effectively unknown/thought of. These, together with related items such as Manx crosses, Manx Notebook etc on the isle-of-man.com site provide a substantial source of free, relevant and up to date information on Manx history, genealogy and heritage.
The BB's are monitored by isle-of-man.com ADMIN to ensure irrelevance/mischief postings are moderated. We rarely receive mischievous posts as most posters are genuinely interested in the subject matter itself.
IOMFHS and genealogy postings are not 'passed on second/third hand' at all. The BB's are open to everyone to respond to, whether they are members of the public, family history society members or 'officers/officials' of the society. We know many postings are replied to directly to the posters email account, while others are given a public response on the BB. We cannot dictate how responses are given.
We have had requests for additional items/amendments to content on the IOMFHS/NAMA and related sections of the site. These have all been accommodated where possible. There have been other occasions where posters have requested certain changes/amendments but these have not been implemented. Reasons are that the respective IOMFHS/NAMA etc did not wish them to be changed or, the poster may have had a personal agenda that may have conflicted that of the respective society.
I shall investigate the IOMFHS password/subscription issue. We have not been made aware of any problem in the past so it maybe that someone is on holiday hence delay in response.
I hope this addresses the comments raised, but if there are any other queries, please contact me at admin@isle-of-man.com
