Alice, I have a great little book by Constance Radcliffe "Shining by the sea"1800-1914 and there is a mention of the Radcliffe family in it (page 193)
Coachbuilders and Saddlers and it states re coachbuilding business in Ramsey "the Radcliffes from Ballaugh" Apparently in 1851 Thomas Radcliffe (aged 32)was established on the Quay and employed 2 boys. It also says "he worked with his sons, William and John and in the 1870's was employing 4 men"
If you want me to photocopy this page next week for you I will but as I said it is a great book and well worth buying as it probably has other titbits of info that you would find interesting. There are other mentions of John Radcliffe from Ballaugh, brother of Thomas the coachbuilder).....Pat
